Sounds poignant right? Perhaps a tale of war brides and men going off to battle?

Nah….I’m literally just talking about stuff, mostly cool stuff, that we’ve found on the property, some of which will make its way into the property’s new life.  It’s sort of an anthropological dig, if you’re talking about growing up on a farm in the country in the early 20th century.

Oh, there’s also rot.  They left behind a lot of rot.  Going to try not to incorporate that into the design plan though.

We’ll get the bad out of the way first.  I should have known, and I kind of did, that we’d run into a lot of issues while redoing this old house.  Basically the foundation was a series of jenga towers composed of rocks, broken cinder blocks and random pieces of wood.  We also found some rotted boards where the encroaching dirt had done its magic. Taking care of all that!

Here’s the board we’re having to replace.  Unfortunately, shabby chic isn’t a legit construction technique because I’m sure this would apply.

Here’s Ed leaning on a new support which you can tell is considerable if it supports Ed’s husky frame.

We have, or rather James, the man doing the work, has uncovered all sorts of treasures in the process, though.

A little show and tell:

One of the favorite things that we’ve found so far…

We all need a minnow bucket!

I guess this is a homemade whisk…

Somebody lost their work boots….

and their kitchen table….

image

…and some poor kid lost his trucks!

But the piece de resistance is this baby:

…an old ice box that was in one of the sheds.

Cool label…

Here’s crazy mountain man Ed getting some hooch (or other mysterious liquid) out of it…

Hopefully there’s more treasures to come!
